Poker is a family of poker games where players put wagers over whether their hand is the best based on the rules of that game. In poker, the general consensus is that the highest pair of cards that doesn’t cost any more than nine or seven is your ‘suit’ and the highest card that doesn’t cost any more than fifteen is your ‘board’. The suits are named after the colours that the cards are usually played in. There are a total of ninety-nine different suits in total, with each suit representing a colour of the card. Of all the poker cards, the most popular ones in North American casinos are the four suits (Aces, Kings, Queens, Jacks and Queens) followed by the fifty-two other cards.
Poker is played using a variety of betting strategies including the so-called ‘all-in’ strategy where all your chips are spent in the hopes of getting a certain card (often a Wild Card) to your opponents so you can end up with the highest score at the end of the game. This type of poker play is referred to as a Wild Card Poker match. Placing a bet using all your chips is referred to as a ‘push’ and if your opponent has the same amount of chips as you then you are said to have a ‘flush’ – in poker parlance this means that you have the highest hand at the end of the game. This is referred to as the pre-flop because at the flop, all the bets made in the pre-flop are refunded to the house.
There are various other types of poker games including the Hold’em, Seven Card Stud HiLo and Five Card Stud. In Hold’em, players compete with each other in poker games played with the jokers. This is considered the all time favourite poker game where one person plays the roles of both a dealer and a customer (in Hold’em the dealer is referred to as the dealer and the customer as the customer). There are various different variations of Hold’em including Caribbean Stud HiLo and Caribbean Stud Regular. In the Caribbean Stud HiLo version there are no jokers in the deck while in the Caribbean Stud Regular version there are two jokers in the deck.
